MONDRIAN

Since 2000, the ensemble has been working not only with new and cutting-edge music but also with classical-romantic repertoire. It tries to spin threads that run through music history without taking the existing divides into account. People particularly like to experiment with cross-connections that only become apparent at a second glance. In 2018, the ensemble received the Swiss music award with the title “Kühne Brückenbauerinnen”. With your own concert series, you perform at concert venues throughout Switzerland several times a year and are also frequent guests at festivals and concert series at home and abroad. More recently, the Mondrian Ensemble received the “Swiss Ambassador Award” for its many appearances at festivals and tours. In 2011 it received the Year of Work for Musical Interpretation from the City of Zurich and in 2015 the Mondrian Ensemble was accepted into the Fondation Nestlé pour l’Art’s one-year partnership program. Numerous composers have composed works for the Mondrian Ensemble, including Dieter Ammann, Rudolf Kelterborn, Detlev Müller-Siemens, Roland Moser, Felix Profos, Jürg Frey, Wanja Aloe, Michel Roth, Martin Jaggi, Edu Haubensak, Thomas Wally, Jannik Giger and many more These works have also been released on CD. Shortly after its founding in 2000, the Mondrian Ensemble won the “Concours Nicati – Concours d’interprétation de musique contemporaine”, the Géraldine Whittaker Prize, and a third prize in the Migros-Genossenschafts-Bund chamber music competition in 2003. Debuts at the Tonhalle Zurich followed (2003), at the Lucerne Festival (2005), at the Musikverein Wien (2006), and in London’s Wigmore Hall (2007) as well as many appearances at festivals, tours, etc. In 2004 a CD by the Mondrian Ensemble was released by Grammont Portrait, in 2010 the ensemble Contributed recordings to the Grammont portrait of Dieter Ammann, and in 2007 to that of Felix Profos. In 2014, WERGO released a portrait CD by Detlev Müller-Siemens, exclusively with interpretations by the Mondrian Ensemble; on the portrait CD by Jürg Frey, released in the same year, the Mondrian Ensemble is represented with several recordings. In 2019 the CD AMMANN/ GIGER was released on the Swiss label “A tree in a field” with music by Jannik Giger and Dieter Ammann. In 2020, “Col Legno” released a CD with music by the Austrian composer Thomas Wally – played exclusively by the Mondrian Ensemble.
