Sami Klemola is a many-faceted and bold composer whose output includes sound art and installations in addition to conventional compositions. A substantial part of his output consists of electroacoustic music; accordingly, he is the founder and coordinator of Finland’s only electroacoustic ensemble, defunensemble. Many of his installations are interactive in nature. His installation Brainwash is described thus: “The installation brushes against Surrealism, and the rules of everyday life suddenly no longer apply.”

Sami Klemola is the artistic director of defunensemble whose concert concepts have proven to be highly innovative, blending different sub-genres of the electroacoustic persuasion with unprecedented street credibility—any dusty notions of classical music are soon forgotten.
